I just upgraded a new WRT54G2 to DD-WRT v24-sp2 10/30/08 micro. I also have a WRT54Gv8 which is running DD-WRT v24-sp1 07/27/08 micro. I've configured the WRT54G2 as a Repeater on the same SSID as the WRT54Gv8 according to the docs I found here and everything seemed to configure correctly.
